Canadian City Spotlight series features some of the amazing hidden gems across the country. Today we continue the journey, sharing the key highlights that make the city of Sudbury, Ontario an up-and-coming destination to call home in Canada.

Historically rooted in the mining industry, Sudbury has evolved into a diverse,urban community for financial and business services, tourism, health care, and education. With 330 freshwater lakes surrounding a vibrant city center, Sudbury is the perfect home for newcomers who are looking for a mix of metropolitan city life and natural surroundings.   

38% of its residents are bilingual in English and French, making Sudbury  a great option for immigrants who are French-speaking. Skilled foreign workers who have a demonstrated proficiency in both languages may benefit from the French Speaking Skilled Worker stream of Ontario’s PNP, which offers Canadian permanent residence for successful candidates and their families.

Sudbury was listed as the second most affordable housing market in Ontario. Compared to its big city counterpart, Toronto, a home is Sudbury was 65% less expensive.

According to the city of greater Sudbury’s Outlook for Growth to 2046, Sudbury stands out as the only major urban area in Northern Ontario with a growing population. The population is expected to continue to grow and diversify, with 8,000 new households and 11,000 jobs being added in the next twenty years!

This Spring  the Canadian government launched the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, designed with the goal of attracting highly skilled foreign workers to cities and communities outside of the major urban centres.

Sudbury is one of 11 communities selected to participate, therefore it receives support directly from the Federal government to build skilled immigration to the city . The pilot will begin accepting applications from eligible candidates in the Fall of 2019. If you would like to make Sudbury your home, now is the best time to begin the process.
