We often receive questions like “can I receive GCMS notes in one week” or “I need my GCMS notes urgently, please do it fast”.
Is it possible to receive a GCMS file in less time? The entire process of ordering a GCMS file is based on Canadian access to information and privacy legislation. The law requires that a government body respond to requests for information (GCMS requests) in 30 days.
We have contacted CIC to inquire if it is possible to receive a GCMS file in less than 30 days. Here’s the answer:
Unfortunately we cannot process requests any faster. We are overloaded with requests and 30 days is the best we can do. Sometimes it may take a few extra days to process certain requests.
However, if an applicant decides to appeal the negative decision in the Federal Court, immigration authorities in most cases provide GCMS notes much faster – usually within a matter of days. But to receive those one must file an application to the Federal Court of Canada, which is not a solution for the sole purpose of receiving case notes.
