Had you spent total 12 months or more offshore after your PR grant date?

Hi BondiGirl,

Thank you for sharing so much information in the forum and congradulations on your successful application.
I’ve read most of your posts and replies. I have several questions which you could help me:
1. Did you send emails to ask for a Virtual Ceremony?
2. If you did, a ) which email address did you sent your request to?  b) when did you sent it and how many requests you’ve made until you got the VC invitation? 3) what is the reason you request a VC?
I appreciate your kind help in advance.

Regards,
Stella

It's through Webex which is a secure video calling program developed by Cisco. Yes they emailed the invitation a week prior and I accepted it.

Oh cool, was it through zoom or facetime etc? Were you aware when they were going to call or was it random?

After you get your approval letter you wait unless you've got a compelling reason. Then in the online ceremony they connect to the call and greet you. Then they ask you to tell them your date of birth, address including post code and full name. They then ask you to show them an ID, then they say what citizenship means, get you to read the pledge out loud after them and then they congratulate you on becoming an Australian citizen and say the certificate will arrive in up to 3 weeks and they tell you to celebrate before ending the call. It takes about 3 minutes.

Hey,
Can you please take me through what happens after you get your approval letter and what happens during the online ceremony?
Cheers

Hi Ryan95, I emailed the department and got their usual, "you need to wait" but then I contacted my local MP explaining that I needed it to apply for federal government jobs which they consider a compelling reason. I then had a week's wait from the invitation to finalisation.

Hi Bondi Girl

Can you share how you managed to get the online ceremony arranged. Did you have to provide a reason or did you just asked for one?

Thanks!
